Who are Foster Grandparent Volunteers?
Foster Grandparents are adults who are:
-
55 years of age or older
-
Able to volunteer 5 days a week, for 4 hours a day
-
Willing to accept supervision
-
In reasonably good health
-
Can meet CNCS and ALTSD income guidelines
Benefits
Some of the benefits a Foster Grandparent receives includes:

$3.00/hr stipend (Tax Free: Will not affect social security, disability or food stamps eligibility)

Paid holiday, vacation, and sick days

Free annual physical exam

Paid training
-
Insurance while on-duty

Reimbursement for mileage or bus fares

Recognition for volunteer services

Meal reimbursement
Duties
Duties of the Senior Companion may include:

Listening to children relating stories, telling stories

Talking with children who need to share their joys, sadness, and concerns

Helping children who need extra practice in basic skills, such as:
-
Handwriting​
-
Number Concepts
-
Reading
-
Spelling
-
Speaking
-
-
Participating with children in education and recreational activities
Who Do They Serve?
Foster Grandparents serve:​
-
Children with special and exceptional needs
-
Throughout Chaves County. Spending volunteer hours in Public Schools, Child Development Centers, Boy's and Girl's Club, and Head Start.
